Getting down to business

Interview with Liz Bryce

Business at Sunsets are a Chamber of Commerce and Industry initiative where businesses can showcase themselves. It brings together a wide range of businesses and gives them the opportunity to network.
The most recent one was hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry to present the awards to the Outback Caravan Park and to Enterprise Electrics for their ten years of Chamber membership and one to the Tennant Creek Newsagency for twenty years of membership.
On the night we had about 25 businesses represented from sectors such as tourism, industry and others - it basically covers most businesses in Tennant Creek. Most businesses are invited to our functions because although they aren't all members, it could encourage them to become members when they see what the Chamber does.
It's networking basically and if someone has a problem in a business area then they can just discuss it with the others. It just gives people an opportunity to talk about business really.
We usually try and hold them every two months just depending on when we can get a business to host it!
The host business supplies nibbles and drinks and then they do a presentation on what their business has done in the past or what they might be going to do in the future.
At the moment the bar is being run by the Junior Bowls Club, which is raising funds for them.
We hold them at the Battery for the simple reason that here in Tennant Creek, a lot of businesses don't have an area to hold it and the Battery let us use their place free of charge.
