The RSL War Memorial was erected in memory
of those who have served in World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam
and other conflicts where Australia was involved. In particular it remembers
those from the Barkly region.
The Dedication of the memorial will be this ANZAC Day 25th April 1998
at 11:00am.
The memorial is made from local Territory Granite (Mt Bundy), designed
by Mrs Karen Thompson of Tennant Creek and made by Tillets of Adelaide.
This project was undertaken by the RSL sub branch of Tennant Creek and
the Memorial Club. The RSL sub branch have entered into a 99 year lease
with the Memorial Club which will ensure the ongoing commitment of the
RSL in Tennant Creek. Membership of the RSL in Tennant Creek is currently
32, spanning from World War II to present day service personnel. The
RSL sub branch thanks the people of Tennant Creek for their support
in its fund raising enabling the building of the memorial. The next
step is to convert the existing RSL Building into a museum which when
completed will be open to the public, tourists and school groups.
