The Thirst of a
Thirsty Thursday Drinker

by Gummow

(What better thing to do on a Thirsty Thursday in Tennant Creek than to have a few beers with my mates.)
Thought we would get an early start.
Hop in a taxi
Roadhouse and back,
Fifty dollars for the carton
Fifty for the cab.
Midday found us in the queue at the local
In we go with a rush.
Four bucks a tinnie — that’s not much,
Two hours to guzzle
So get them while you can.
Doors locked,
Back on the street again.
Not a problem, cross the road
Three-eighty a can — another two hours to load.
Pubs are shut, clubs the go
Being a member down I go.
Grab a box to take away,
Should see the arvo out anyway.
Back at my house
Friends around,
Charging up, slowing down.
Need some action,
Clubs or pubs;
Disco sounds good and only ten bucks.
Tinnies still four, spirits six
Lucky it’s payday
Or I’d be in the shit.
Up we get, dancing around,
No-one knows what time we’ll be shut down.
The tills a’bulgin’ as the dollars go in,
Next thing we know, back on the street again.
My wallet’s empty — but I’m full,
Thirsty Thursday, I blame it on you all.
