Jalajirrppa

There's a new band in town and they're hot. We caught up with them
rehearsing at the Training Centre

Vincent Plummer Benning,13 , Desmond Plummer, 16 and Jimmy Plummer, 14 have formed their own band called Jalajirrppa. The boys are from Tennant Creek and of the Warumungu tribe.
Their country lies around Phillip Creek, Tennant Creek, Mary Ann Dam and the Devils Pebbles. Their totem is the white cockatoo which their clan calls 'Jalajirrppa'. The boys have chosen this name to represent their country clan groups and also to keep their grandfather's name alive.
Although these three young musicians have only been playing together for a month, their first public appearance was on Territory Day at the Civic Hall.
Although they still have a long way to go, under the guidance and encouragement of Barry Benning and lots of practice playing with the Frontier Music Club, these cousins are sure to have many more gigs ahead of them.

Uncle Barry
I've always
wanted to play
drums and guitar
I wish that I
would play on the stage
Then my wish came true
thank you Uncle Barry
thank you for inspiring me unc
Now that I can play
my future lies a long
way ahead of me
Thank you Uncle Barry
Thank you for inspiring me unc

Killer Grog
In the Northern Territory there
lies a small town called Tennant Creek
where our ancestors grew up strong and healthy.
But now you see young local kids
throwing their lives to the killer grog.
Killer, killer the killer grog.
The killer grog is killing all my people, the killer grog.
Young people from around Tennant Creek
who grew up with talent
destroyed their lives from the killer grog.
