The Tennant Creek High School Cyberkafé

The Cybercafe at Tennant Creek High School has turned into quite a popular meeting place for those who are either looking for a place to relax with friends, chat away endlessly on the variety of chatlines available or who are in search of some great up to date info for their school research. The Cybercafe, which opened last year attracts not only High School students but a number of tourists who pass through often drop in to the Cafe for a browse on the Net.
Funded by The Australian Youth Council Inc. and the Tennant Creek High School Council, the Cyber Cafe will prove to be a perfect example at a conference to be held at Melbourne University later this year to discuss the importance and possibility of opening more public places like the Cyber Cafe around Australia, increasing availability to the Internet to the wider community.
After speaking to a few regulars at the Cybercafe, there was quite a range of Internet enthusiasts to be found.
A young Internet Wizz from the High School, Lauren Bennet, 14, (see pic) says she enjoys surfing the Net because she finds it an excellent way of meeting new and exciting people from all over the world. She has already made friends with people in England and in the United States. Lauren enjoys the Internet mainly because of the variety of chat lines which she joins in on. Spending, she says, about 15 hours a week on the Internet, Lauren says it is a great way to meet a wide range of people.
